ORAL PRESENTATION PROJECT

Purpose of Assignment

The purpose of the assignment is to conduct research on a medical condition, disorder or disease to actively learn, about it and share learned information with peers in an oral presentation.

The creation of a Po\AserPoint presentation containing a maximum of 15 slides will develop skills that will be used while on fieldwork and in future jobs.

Assignment of Creating PowerPoint Presentation and Handout

Each student will identify a medical condition, disease or disorder and have that topic approved by the instructor.

Students will discuss. define or describe the following:

The disease, disorder or medical condition

• Etiology of the disease. disorder or condition

• Pathology of the disease, disorder or medical condition

• Body system affected

• Incidence and prevalence

• Signs and symptoms of the disease. disorder or medical condition

• Pathogenesis (course of the disease)

• Diagnostic procedures

Medical / surgical management

• Prognosis / outcome/ quality of life issues

• Common medications used

• Typical abilities and deficits from that disease, disorder or medical condition

• Hov,, the disease. disorder or medical condition impacts the domains, as listed in the OT Practice Framework

• Medical terminology, with definitions

• References

Summarize your PowerPoint presentation in a handout to be distributed to the instructor and each class member before your presentation.

Presenting the the PowerPoint in Class

Each student will present a fifteen-minute presentation to the class on his or her medical condition, disorder or disease; you will be timed and stopped at the end of fifteen-minutes. Two minutes will be allowed for questions at the end.

Each student will vear appropriate, professional attire. as s/he would if presenting material at a conference. Students will use appropriate eye contact, movement and volume/rate of speech.
