Question: A 20 kg floodlight in a park is supported at the end of ahorizontal bean of negligible mass that is hinged to a pole asshown below. A cable at an angle of 30.0 degrees with the beamhelps support the light. Consider the equilibrium of the beam,drawing the free-body diagram of that object. Compute torques about an axis at the hinge at the left-hand end. Find

(a) the tension inthe cable,

(b) the horizontal component of the force exerted by thepole on the beam, and

(c) the vertical component of this force. Nowsolve the same problem from the same free-body diagram by computingtorques around the junction between the cable and the beam at theright-hand end of the beam. Find

(d) the vertical component of theforce exerted by the pole on the beam

(e) the tension in the cable,and

(f) the horizontal components of the force exerted by the poleon the beam

(g) Compare the solution to parts (a) through (c) withthe solution to parts (d) through (f). Is either solution moreaccurate?
