Refer to the shell-and-tube heat exchanger shown in Fig. 9.13. The outer tube has an OD of 7/8 in and the OD of the inner tube is 1/2 in. Both tubes are standard steel tubes with 0.049-in wall thicknesses. The inside tube carries 4.75 gal/min of water at 200°F and the shell carries 30.0 gal/min of ethylene glycol at 77°F to carry heat away from the water. Compute the Reynolds number for the flow in both the tube and the shell.
