Case: In this task you will assume the role of the enrolled nurse working in a community clinic to obtain a person's health history, undertake assessment and demonstrate clinical skills. This is a task of a surgical wound and suture line to provide information to the registered nurse, and then to remove the sutures. You will provide the person with information and education related to preventative measures based on lifestyle and work role, and you will refer them to appropriate allied health, medical or nursing professionals. You will document your findings, assessment and actions in the person's progress notes.
The person's details are as follows:
Paul Gibbons 24 years. Basal cell carcinoma removed seven days ago with orders to have the wound assessed and sutures removed. Paul works as a builder for a local firm, is a social drinker and smokes 20 cigarettes per day. He eats a balanced diet reflective of the Standard Australian Diet and exercises at the gym three days per week.
