Properties of Pure Substances - Saturation Pressure and Temperature of Water

Objectives

This laboratory will examine the pressure-temperature relationship of a pure substance (H₂O) during liquid-to-vapour phase equilibrium, which is known as the saturation state or "boiling point'. The measured properties are compared to the published thermodynamics data (Steam Table values), with the aims of promoting understanding of pure substance behaviour and calculation of properties, and of identifying factors which differentiate calculated (theoretical) results from measured (experimental) results. The experimental set up will also allow the determination of vapour dryness fraction via a throttling calorimeter.

Results and Discussion

Provide suitable tabulations with units illustrating all readings taken, resistance correction applied, computed temperatures, temperatures from the Steam Table and the atmospheric pressure. Discuss differences observed in measured steam temperatures and those obtained from the Steam Tables. Outline possible measurement errors and precautions to overcome them. Show your complete calculation for obtaining the dryness fraction, including diagrams as noted over the page. I need to complete this lab report. I need some help as I have overlooked the deadline and have other pending assignments. I have provided the lab results, lab instruction sheet, temperature calculator, resistance and temperature charts. There are no limits. So I Guess as Long as the report follows the instructions given on the instruction sheet, it should be fine.
