Question

A 43-year-old male presents to your office with the chief complaint of a burn on his left forearm. He states that he burned himself two days ago when he was boiling hot water and spilled it on himself. He states the wound became red and swollen and gradually became worse over the past two days. He is wearing a short sleeve shirt because there is pain upon contact of the wound.

Upon physical exam there is significant erythema that covers the entire proximal forearm and antecubital fossa in the shape of an oval. He has mild blistering and scalding across his forearm.

This patient presents with a classic case of second degree burn.
