Use the two examples to answer the questions in detail. It is asking for an argumentative essay convincing the reader of the value and importance of using both qualitative and quantitative research. The four questions in bold are what needed to be answered. Also, use scholarly journals and possibly peer reviewed.
Example One
Qualitative research on mandatory arrest laws for domestic violence calls. Are mandatory arrest laws more beneficial to domestic violence victims or is it harmful? The answer is not so simple. In Minneapolis during the early 1980s there was a study that was conducted to examine "the effectiveness of different types of response for police when responding to domestic violence calls in the Minneapolis area" (Fogle De Souza, 2020). This study or experiment along with Minneapolis arrest policy laid the foundation for the future of mandatory arrests policies that would be implemented in several states in the years to come. This study showed that women were more inclined to call police during a domestic violence situation because they knew that something would happen. That they would be safe immediately because the abuser was arrested or forced to leave for at least eight hours following the incident. However, there are a few downsides to mandatory arrest laws. One being that the perpetrator could severally injure or even kill the victim upon release from jail. Conducting one-on-one interviews and surveys with the people that are affected by domestic violence would be the key part in qualitative research on mandatory arrests laws.
Quantitative research on mandatory sentencing laws. Are mandatory sentencing laws prejudicial against people of color or minorities? There have been several studies done that prove that people of color or minorities are more than likely to be sentenced using mandatory sentencing laws than white people. A study found that "Black and Latino individuals more often than white individuals" were charged "with possession or sale of a quantity of drugs just sufficient to trigger a mandatory minimum" (Siegler, 2021). This means that white defendants were still charged with drug possession or distribution, but not with the quantity it took to trigger the mandatory sentencing laws. In other words, white defendants would spend less time in jail or prison than people of color. The quantitative research is in the numbers and percentages of minorities or people of color that are charged with crimes with a mandatory sentencing law. Studies have shown the percentage of people in jail and prison are people of color or minorities.
