Compare and contrast two movies-
What we'll do is have you compare and contrast Double Indemnity as a Noir to Mildred Pierce as a Noir. They are both film Noir. They are both written originally as a case of Double Indemnity. And Mildred Pierce as a novel by James M. Kane. So how they are different and maybe similar
Please make it perfect and you can refer bellow the sentences so that you can easily write it.. And remember, Noir is a concept that the film studios themselves did not use while they were making them. In other words, Billy Wilder didn't say, "oh, this is a great film Noir that I'm making with Double Indemnity." The term Noir didn't come into being until the 1950's. It came into being from French film critics. Who took a look at the back log of films they were not able to see during the war, during World War 2. And they noticed upon looking at these films that had been made during WW2 that they were dark. That they used darkness in image, and they used darkness of attitude, and darkness of character, and darkness of subject matter. And Noir means black so that's where the term came from, French for black, Noir. So think about how Double Indemnity has those characters. And I think for your midterm, what we'll do is have you compare and contrast Double Indemnity as a Noir to Mildred Pierce as a Noir. They are both film Noir. They are both written originally as a case of Double Indemnity and not as Collette. And Mildred Pierce as a novel by James M. Kane. So how they are different and maybe similar. Because the stories are authored by the same man, James M. Kane originally, on paper and then they are translated to film by 2 different studios. Double Indemnity comes out of Paramount and Mildred Pierce comes out of Warner Brothers. Double Indemnity has the classic male protagonist and Mildred Pierce changes that and has a female protagonist. So what does that do in terms of the story? They both have femme fatales, they're both set in Los Angeles. They're both cinematically quite dark, although Mildred Pierce you'll see used as more upbeat writing scenes through quite a few of its scenes and we'll talk about it next week after we've seen it next week. But I think that will be a good exercise for us. And, you know when you compare and contrast the 2 films it's actually easier than if you're discussing one film because you've got more to work with. So it was a good idea? Any other comments about Double Indemnity? We can talk about it more next week after you've seen both movies.
