1. Meet the Sycamore Family:
Mom (Sue) is 50 years of age and entered into menopause 5 years ago. She takes 2 raw bovine ovarian capsules a day. These capsules contain powder derived from the freeze dried ovaries of freshly killed cows. Sue has put on some weight over the past few years and has a BMI that places her in the overweight category
David is 45 years of age and Sue's husband. his weight, percent body fat and BMI are all ideal for his age.
Ann is 22 years of age and has an ovulatory cycle that is normal and regular. her weight, percent body fat and BMI are all ideal for her age.
Sara is a 19 year old fashion model that became bulimic at the age of 17 and has a BMI that is well below ideal.
Tiffany is 7 years of age and has a genetic abnormality in her kisspeptin receptors such that there is prolonged activation of the intracellular signaling pathways in response to kisspeptin binding to its cell surface receptor. She has undergone a precocious puberty and has breast development, pubic hair and bone development that is more similar to an 11 year old. She has not had her first menstrual cycle yet.
Gayle is 17 and also has a genetic abnormaility in that she does not make functional FSH beta subunit. Because mom is such a big fan of taking the raw bonve ovarian capsules, she placed Gayle on a 2 capsule a day regimen of raw bovine pituitary which is the powder from freeze dried cow pituitaries. her weight, percent body fat, and BMI are all ideal for her age.
