Critically discuss some of the common elements for sacred places such as Mecca in Saudi Arabia, the place of Muslim pilgrimage, and the Holy Land where Jesus lived, and is the place where many Christians choose to visit holy sites. What elements do these sites share in common?

Sacred sites are sacred for a reason. They were not in most cases chosen on a whim by religious leaders of long ago. They are deemed sacred by their followers because of historical or mythical events that occurred at those sites. By making pilgrimages to these sites, modern day followers are tied to the sacred history of the religion or belief system they adhere to.
