1. How Parents Divorce impact children mental health?
I would like to research information as parental divorce as it correlates with child mental health
A process-oriented approach to parental divorce locates the experience within the social and developmental context of children's lives, providing greater insight into how parental divorce produces vulnerability in some children and resiliency in others. The current study involves prospectively tracking a nationally representative sample of Canadian children of ages 4-7 and living with two biological parents at initial interview in 1994 (N = 2,819), and comparing the mental health trajectories of children whose parents remain married with those whose parents divorce by 1998. Results from growth curve models confirm that, even before marital breakup, children whose parents later divorce exhibit higher levels of anxiety/depression and antisocial behavior than children whose parents remain married.
2. How does foster care affect a child mental health and estimating the Impact of Out-of-Home Placement on Child well-being?
Important contribution to international debates about whether placing children in care is beneficial or detrimental to their wellbeing and highlight a range of inter-linking factors associated with the mental health of children in out-of-home care.
3. How does long-term poverty impact mental health illness in children?
In this study, we examine the association between attachment to community, an indicator of social capital, in a sample of African American parents, and the presence of behavior problems in their preschool children. In wealthy neighborhoods, children whose parent reported knowing few of the neighbors had higher levels of internalizing problems such as anxiety and depression compared to those who knew many of their neighbors.
