The addition of impurities is known as doping. When elements with a valance number of 5 (pentavalent impurity) are added, the silicon or germanium is referred to as N-type; if elements with a valance number of 3 (trivalent impurity) are added, the silicon or germanium is referred to P-type.
2. Combining a pentavalent element with a semiconductor leaves one free electron available for current flow (free electrons make a material a good conductor). Electrons are negatively charged; therefore electron flow is from the negative to the positive potential (electron current flow). Increasing the pentavalent doping increases the amount of free electrons; therefore increasing the materials conductive capability. The increase in free electrons increases the materials negative charge; hence the name N-type material. In an N-type substance, electrons are considered the majority carriers.

Design RD and the transistor width-to-length ratio such that ID = 12 mA for V1 = 5 V and VDS = 0.15 V and find the labeled node voltages.
A three-phase, 2000-kVA, 12-kV, 1800-rpm synchronous generator has a synchronous reactance of 20 ohms per phase and negligible armature resistance.a. The field current is adjusted to obtain the rated terminal voltage at open circuit.
A system samples a sinusoid of frequency 480 Hz at a rate of 100 Hz and writes the sampled signal to its output without further modification. Determine the frequency that the sampling system will generate in its output.
Design and provide the logic circuit of a 4 bit counter using the same techniques used to design synchronous sequential machines. The counter has three inputs: EN (Enable), OD (Order), and ST(Step). The initial output of the FSM is 0000.

Specify how many bits are needed to appropriately digitize each of the following signals. Choose from: 6 bits, 8 bits, 10 bits, 12 bits, 14 bits, or 16 bits. a. A signal where the maximum amplitude is 1 volt and the rms noise is 1.5 millivolts.
A radio link receiver has a signal sensitivity of 100 milliwatt. The SNR required is at least 14 dB. Which is the maximum noise allowed in the receiver.
A Silicon wafer has a uniform doping density of 8 xl018 atoms cm-3 of Arsenic and 2.5 x 1019 atoms cm-3 of Phosphorus. Assume that all Arsenic atoms are fully (100%) ionized at room temperature but the Phosphorus atoms are 80% ionized.
The resistance of the filament of the bulb, measured with a standard multimeter, is 16.7 ohms. When the bulb is connected into the circuit and is operating at the rated values given above determine a) the resistance of the filament b) the efficien..
