SCENARIO:
34-year-old female came into the clinic today for a scheduled DOT PE. It is required that all DOT PE's are to have a color-blind test, vision testing, and an audiogram successfully completed.
1. What is a DOT PE? Who would need a DOT PE?
COLOR BLIND TESTING
2. What is the medical word for the color-blind procedure? Why would this procedure be completed? How would you explain this procedure? What may be found in the plates? What is the maximum distance that a patient needs to be to complete this procedure? How many wrong can a patient get during this procedure?
3. Are children being tested at an early age? If so, when are they being tested? Why are they being tested?
4. What colors are more common in men? What colors affects men and woman equally? Who generally can pass down the color-blind trait? Be specific in your answer.
VISION TESTING
5. What is vision acuity? What is a Snellen chart? There are several vision acuity tests that are used. Describe what is available. Vision testing is started at the age of 3, what types of tests are available to children?
Describe what the patient would need to do for this procedure. Include in your answer the "do not do" while completing this procedure. What type of instrument(s) would need to be used for this procedure?
6. If the patient wears glasses, do they need to wear glasses during this procedure? What would you document if the patient does wear glasses? What if the patient forgot their glasses? What would you document?
7. EXTRA CREDIT: Your patient states before you completed the vision exam, that she/he had had vision laser surgery. Where should this information be charted at?
