Emily, a client seeking counseling for relationship issues, is agitated and anxious. She explains that her partner, Eddie, has been a constant source of criticism and accusation, causing her to lose her job and become a stay-at-home wife. Eddie has become jealous and possessive, insisting that Emily spend all her time with him and accusing her of cheating. Emily admits that she tries to pull her weight in the relationship, but admits that it is probably her fault. She feels like a useless waste of space and feels like she can't do anything right. The counsellor notices a large bruise on Emily's shoulder, partially covered by a cardigan, and she covers it up, claiming it was a result of a recent bump.
