This assessment is to be completed individually. You are required to prepare a simplified research report, including a short literature summary and a basic research proposal. The goal is to practice academic writing, analyse existing research, and develop a high-level research outline.
Assessment Description
For this assessment, you are required to:
Conduct a brief literature review based using at least 5 academic sources that are directly related to your identified problem.
Develop a concise research outline addressing a specific IT problem within your field of study.
Your task involves summarizing key insights from academic sources, identifying gaps, and recommending a simple research approach. Your report should be approximately 1500 words and include clear objectives, questions or hypotheses, a brief methodology, and expected outcomes.
Learning outcome 1: Design a plan for research that aims to identify the causes and potential solutions of an IT problem for a client.
Learning outcome 2: Recommend multi-disciplinary IT solutions.
Assessment Instructions
Students must conduct scholarly research and include appropriate references. Use at least five (5) credible sources published within the last seven years, including journal articles, books, and conference papers. You may cite additional papers in the Introduction Section. References must be presented as in-text citations and in a bibliography format (not included in the word limit). Avoid using Wikipedia or similar sources. Submit your report as a Word or PDF document.
The report should be well-structured and organised. It should include the following details:
Introducing the Problem: Begin by clearly stating the IT problem faced by the company indicated in the chosen case study. Provide a concise overview of the problem and its significance for the company. Explain why it is crucial to identify the potential solutions for this problem.
Literature Review: Summarize key contributions, methods, and findings from 5 academic sources. Group similar findings into themes (e.g., "Key Challenges" or "Common Methods"). Highlight gaps in the existing research.
Research Outline: State a clear research problem inspired by your summary. Include the following items:
Research Objectives: Clearly outline the specific goals your research seeks to accomplish, ensuring alignment with the identified research gap.
Research Questions or Hypotheses: Formulate concise questions or hypotheses.
Methodology: Identify and justify the research methods (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed).
Data Collection: Briefly describe how data will be gathered (e.g., surveys, interviews).
Expected Outcomes: State potential results and their significance.
Formatting: The literature review should be around 1500 words. Use APA, Harvard or any acceptable referencing style for citations and bibliography.
