Here is a simple heat engine: Start with 20 moles of monatomic gas, occupying 0.50 m3 of volume at 400 K.

a ) Calculate the gas pressure.

i) Add heat at constant pressure until the volume increases to 1.0 m3.

ii) At constant volume, let the gas cool to atmospheric pressure.

iii) Compress the gas at constant pressure to its original volume.

iv) Heat the gas at constant volume to the original pressure.

b) Draw a P-V diagram of this cycle.

c) Calculate the temperature at the end of each process.

d) Find the total work done during the cycle.
