A train of mass 15000kg is brought to rest when striking the buffers of a terminus. The buffers consist of two springs in parallel as shown in Figure5(b).The spring constant of each spring is 120kN/m. The springs are compressed by 0.75m when the train is brought to rest. Assuming that there is no losses of energy due to the impact calculate:

(i) The strain energy gained by the buffers.

(ii) The velocity of the train at the instant it strikes the buffers.
