You and a friend have been given the task of designing a display for the Physics building that will demonstrate the strength of the electric force. Your friend comes up with an idea that sounds neat theoretically, but you're not sure it is practical. She suggests you use an electric force to hold a marble in place on a sloped plywood ramp. She would get the electric force by attaching a uniformly charged semicircular wire near the bottom of the ramp, laying the wire flat on the ramp with each of its ends pointing straight up the ramp. She claims that if the charges on the marble and ring and the slope of the ramp are chosen properly, the marble would be balanced midway between the ends of the wire. To test this idea, you decide to calculate the necessary amount of charge on the marble for a reasonable ramp angle of 15 degrees and a semicircle of radius 10 cm with a charge of 800 micro-coulombs. The marble would roll in a slot cut lengthwise into the center of the ramp. The mass of the lightest marble you can find is 25 grams.
If air resistance & other effects are ignored how far away did the shell hit.
On a hot summer day in the state of Washington while kayaking, I saw several swimmers jump from a railroad bridge into the Snohomish River below. The swimmers stepped off the bridge, and I estimated that they hit the water 1 s later.
Do you agree with IBM's employment response to competition from software development contractors in India, like Wipro, that are expanding into IT consulting services? Why or why not.
A 1.5 {rm kg} block rests on top of a 7.5 {rm kg} block. The cord and pulley have negligible mass, and there is no significant friction anywhere. What force F should be applied to bottom block so the top block accelerates to the right at 2.60 m/s^..
The liquid level system shown in the below figure is initially at the steady state with the inlet flow rate at 1 cfm. Calculate the maximum & minimum values of the output.

A trough is 5 feet long and 1 foot high. The vertical cross-section of the trough parallel to an end is shaped like the graph of y=x10 from x=1 to x=1. The trough is full of water. Find out the amount of work in foot-pounds required to empty the t..
Two point charges Q1=+5.00 nC and Q2= -3.00 nC are separated by 35.0cm. (a) What is the electric potential at a point midway between the charges? (b) What is the potential energy of the pair of charges? What is the significance of the algebraic si..
Two charged spheres are 15 cm apart. They are moved, and the force on each of them is found to have been quadrupled. How far apart are they now.
