Pure ethylene (C2H4) and oxygen are fed to a process for the manufacture of ethylene oxide (C2H4O) C2H4 + ½ O2? C2H4O The process flow diagram is shown below. The catalytic reactor operates at 300 °C and 1.2 atm. Under these conditions, the ethylene conversion per pass is 50% and, of the ethylene consumed, 70% is converted to ethylene oxide. The rest of the ethylene reacts to form CO2 and water vapor (undesired reaction) C2H4 + 3O2? 2CO2 + 2H2O For a daily production of 10,000 kg of ethylene oxide:
(a) Calculate the m3/h of total gas entering the reactor at STP if the ratio of O2(g) fed to fresh C2H4(g) fed is 3:2.
(b) Calculate the recycle ratio in m3 at 10 °C and 100 kPa of ethylene recycled, per m3 at STP of fresh ethylene fed.
(c) Calculate the m^3of the mixture of CO2, O2, and H2O leaving the separator per day at 80 °C and 100 kPa
A shunt regulator utilizes a zener diode whose voltage is 5.1V at a current of 50 ma and whose incremental resistance is 8 ohms. The diode is fed from a supply of 12 V nominal voltage through a 220 ohm resistor
The voltage across the load must remain between 4.7 and 5.0 V for all values of load current. Come up with (draw) a voltage-divider network to supply the load. You may assume that resistors of any value desired are available.
The bellows, diaphragm, and Bourdon tube pressure sensors all exhibit second order time response. This means that a sudden change in pressure will cause an oscillation in the displacement and, therefore in the sensor output.
Determine the surface charge density on each conductor.
(a) The ideal delay system. y[n] = x[n-nd] (b) The accumulator system. y[n] = sum (xk) , k from -inf to n (c) Forward difference system. y[n] = x[n + 1]- x[n] (d) Backward difference system. y[n] = x[n]- x[n - 1]
An infinite grounded conducting tube of radius 10cm is centered on the z axis. A concentric charged tube of radius 6 cm has a surface charge density of 24 uC/m2. A 1m long section of the charged tube is compressed to change its radius to 3 cm.
Telephone channels have a bandwidth of about 3.1khz. do the following in excel. A) If a telephone channel signal to noise ratio is 1000, how fast can a telephone channel carry data?
Calculate the de Broglie wavelength, for: (a) An electron with kinetic energy of (a) 1.0 eV, and (ii) 100 eV. (b) A proton with kinetic energy of 1.0 eV. (c) A singly ionized tungsten atom with k in.
Consider an AlGaAs based heterostructure laser diode which has an optical cavity of length 200 microns. The peak radiation is at 870 nm and the refractive index of GaAs is about 3.7. What is the mode integer m of the peak radiation
A 345-kV, 3-phase transmission line delivers 100 MVA, 0.866 lagging, to a DELTA connected load. Calculate the following: a.) The total real and reactive power delivered to the load. b.) The real and reactive power per phase.
The output response for a system is given as Vo(t) = A(1-e^-at)sin(ωt). Is this a proper representation for an output response given that it contains a sinusoidal term? Fully explain your answer.
If a circuit contains 3 automatic switches and we want that, with a probability of 95%, during a given time interval they are all working, what probability of failure per time interval can we admit for a single switch
