A glass sphere of radius R is placed in air and is illuminated with a beam of parallel rays that propagate along line passing through the center of the sphere. The beam is as wide as the diameter of the sphere. Knowing that all refracted rays converge to a point placed behind the center of the sphere at a distance d = R/1.77, calculate the index of refraction of the glass.
