At the final design stage you will have obtained main dimensions for the new vessel.

1. Using these dimensions and in anticipation of preparing the statutory "Stability" information/booklet calculate the following, explaining to your client the reason and significance of these numbers.

a. the block co-efficient

b. the prismatic co-efficient

c. The midship area co-efficient. (make sure you show all the calculation workings)

2. In consultation with your client and building yard personnel discuss, using visual aids where appropriate, possible and preferred materials of construction, types of construction, build methods. (Use any building yard in any country of your choice)

Although the textual description of the coefficients is quite good, no attempt has been made to identify the multi-purpose vessel in the scenario or its main dimensions. Subsequently the calculations have not been attempted. In task 1Bthere has been no attempt to complete this task. In task 1c there is no specific reference to any of the key regulatory authorities, how they operate, what they cover, their involvement (rules) in ship building and their impact on international ship building. In task 1D the graph presented gives no information or data on the stages or building a commercial vessel from the contract to delivery which is the objective of the task. Action plan: The assignment must be submitted following a careful re-read of each task with full understanding of what is exactly required by each task before commencing the work.
