Question: A penguin is accelerating down a smooth, frictionless slope. The penguin has a mass of 23.0 kg, and the slope is inclined at an angle of 9.16oAs the penguin slides down the slope, which is still inclined at an angle of 9.16o, it hits a region of rough ice, which brings the penguin to rest. Once at rest, the penguin remains at rest.
The static co-efficient of friction between the penguin and the rough ice is 0.193.

1. Calculate the maximum magnitude of the friction force between the penguin and the rough ice.

2. Calculate the actual amount of friction acting on the penguin when at rest on the rough ice.

3. Ahead of where the penguin is at rest, the angle of incline of the slope (?) increases (the slope gets steeper), as shown in the picture below:Calculate the maximum angle of incline (?) the slope can have, and still hold the penguin at rest.

Give your answer in units of degrees.

4. The actual angle of incline of the steeper region of the slope is 28.6o.

Calculate the acceleration of the penguin down the rough-ice covered slope inclined at 28.6o.

Take the co-efficient of kinetic friction to be 0.114.

Hint:The values calculated in the previous questions are for a slope at 9.16o, not a slope at 28.6o.
