Project Assignment -
Project Guidelines: Project has to be a Mechanical or Electromechanical assembly of some kind. (Solving problems or optimization in product design, Robot Applications, Automation systems, engines, compressors, machineries, landing gear, transportation, consumer goods...samples will be shown in class)
Can be an individual project or group Project (min 50 components for 2 people, add another 25 per person)
A project must have a minimum of 10 components and has to be complex enough to use the majority of tools and concepts taught in class. Please discuss with me to get confirmation if your product has less number of parts but with more complexity.
Need to use CATIA software only
Project marks are divided into 8 parts - (proposal, parts, assembly, kinematics/fitting, analysis, drafting, presentation, report)
Proposal
- Submit a Project proposal. Sample files loaded.
Parts
- Build individual parts of your product
- Marks are based on complexity, accuracy and precision of parts.
Check for any errors in your specification tree. Reverse engineered parts built has to be close to dimensions in reality.
Assembly
- Build the assembly using various constraints
- Marks are based on analysis of assembly for interference/constraints and complexity. Check for any errors in specification tree.
Kinematics/Fitting
- Simulate model using joints...
- Sequence the simulation for assembly and disassembly
- Marks are based on simulation of kinematics and Assembly/disassembly of the Pro
Drafting(Assembly)
- Detail the assembly drawing as per standards. Part drawings are not needed due to constraints.
- Marks are based on accuracy of standards, assembly drawing, exploded views, rendered views, part list, balloons and title block
Presentation
- Check your ppt for effectiveness, sequencing of information, originality, spelling & grammar, use of graphics, organization, sources
- Add titles which are relevant to the project...Cover page, inspiration, existing design/concept, design objectives, design evolution, testing, economics, and conclusion
- Marks are based on Project objectives, relevant and valid information for decision making, generation and analysis of alternatives, identifies relevant constraints, valid conclusions/decisions, visual aids, oral presentation, body language and team work... if applicable.
