PART A
You are required to build either a mousetrap racer or a siege machine. The building and testing will be documented, with pictures through the different stages of building and testing: no more than three photos, but they must document the process.
PART B
In this section you are required to design and perform an age appropriate activity for your students based on your constructed machine. This activity will involve testing the machine, using measurement, and modifying variables.
This task allows you to demonstrate you abilities to understand the needs of students in the design and performance of experiments. The assignment will include:
o no more that 3 photos or you may wish to submit a video of the activity and upload it to Unit Media (Share Stream facility). If you choose ShareStream please follow instructions provided in the assignment table and save the file in a MP4 format. Include a statement in your report about the video and its location.
o the use of an investigation report proforma (The proformas can be found in the appendix of Hackling's (2005) Working Scientifically document and a link to this document is provided in the "Set Text" section of the online materials),
o the science outcomes (Australian Curriculum F - Year10),
o the mathematics outcomes (Australian Curriculum F - Year10),
o a risk assessment sheet (see Resources section),
o all data, results and graphs produced,
o experiment conclusions,
o a paragraph reflection on the experiment, including:
- What difficulties might students encounter?
- What organisational issues might be encountered? and
- an explanation of the science concepts.
