Ways of understanding Family and Disability-
This paper should be no longer than 5-6 double spaced pages (not including references) so please be succinct- a very challenging task!
Section One:
Please choose THREE conceptual/theoretical frameworks and briefly outline each in relation to the family. You should refer to at least one article for each theory. These frameworks may be ones we are covering in class or may be different. Do some research and decide which you would like to utilize. There are many conceptual/theoretical frameworks in use in the field of family studies and/or the study of disability and the family. The frameworks don't need to necessarily involve disability but must be applicable to the understanding of disability and the family.
Section Two:
Choose a story in the media involving a family with a member with a disability. Briefly describe the situation. Use each of your theoretical perspectives to understand the circumstances. For example if you were using the stress and coping model you might suggest some elements to enter into the ABCX model.
Section Three:
Identify some similarities and differences among the theoretical frameworks and finally choose which of the frameworks you believe might be most useful for understanding the family's experiences. Suggest a recommendation for policy or practice based on the principles of this theory.
