Kat Pony - Wit 122
4-5 pages (standard margins 1' pointfont)
• Choose some cultural product to analyze: TV show, car, album. makeup. movie. appliance, book. magazine, spans team. non-profit organization. etc.
• Your introductory paragraph should do three things:
[1] Briefly describe the cultural product.
[2] Briefly explain the background of the product.
(3) Make a succinct evaluative claim about the product in relation to its class (what kind of thing it is). Your claim should be as bold as possible while still being reasonably qualified.
• Your second paragraph should list and explain five numbered criteria for the class to which your cultural product belongs. According to what standards is a typical product in this class "good" or "bad"? (In this section, you shouldn't be describing your specific product but rather the general class to which it belongs.)
• In the remaining body paragraphs, provide detailed grounds (evidence) to show how your cultural product does or does not meet your five criteria.
• Use at least four authoritative sources to help you establish criteria and evaluate your cultural product. Quote or paraphrase your sources as necessary. One of these sources should give a counter-argument-meaning that it contradicts some aspect of your argument. Bc sure to thoroughly rebut this con source.
• In your concluding paragraph, explain the broader significance of your evaluative argument. What place dots your product have in contemporary US or world culture?
• Cite your sources within your essay (in-text citation) and at the end of your essay (under the heading "Works Cited") in correct MLA format.
• Creatively title your essay.
