ASSESSMENT TASK - COMMUNICATION ASSESSMENT (DESIGN BRIEF)
PROJECT BRIEF -
Written task - A project brief report outlining the background to the EWB Challenge is to be developed individually. This task should take the form of a report no longer than three pages in length and should be limited to 1000 words.
Instructions - You are required to:
a. Select one of design areas.
b. Do research on the EWB Challenge, the community and its people to locate relevant information that can inform potential projects in the selected design project, and
C. Write a project brief to communicate your findings.
Description: Design brief (1000 words and 3 pages only) on Design topic (Environment and Conservation) of East Santo Communities, Vanuatu.
Your report should provide the background of the EWB Challenge, community, people and projects as a stand-alone document.
It is recommended that you follow the following structure in preparing your project brief.
Suggested structure -
1. Executive Summary (150 words)
In this section, you are required to concisely:
a. State the aim of the report (Why was the brief written? Assessment requirements can be a clue.)
b. Outline the content of the report (What was covered in the brief? Headings could be a good start), and
c. outcome of research (This should be the defined problem statement, ie during your research what have you decided is the problem the client is actually wanting to be solved)
As general advice, only write the Executive summary after you have written all other sections of the brief.
2. Background on EWB Challenge (100 words)
In this section, you are required to provide some background information of the EWB Challenge. You may want to consider aims and objectives of the EWB Challenge, its history, application in University teaching and maybe some examples of winning design projects. You are also required to clearly state the design area you would like to pursue for your design project. It is OK if later in semester, your team works on a different design project.
3. Context of EWB Challenge (500 words)
In this section, you are required to describe the context for the EWB challenge. In particular, you are required to identify and describe knowledge of the community. You are required to draw on a range of relevant literature to support the knowledge of the community you present in the report, including the EWB website, WHO documents, etc.
4. Identification of stakeholders relevant to the design area (150 words)
In this section, you are required to identify stakeholders that are relevant to the design area, the roles they may play in relation to projects in the design area, their expectations of project outcomes. You should consider categorising your stakeholders in a table or chart format to aid in interpretation and brevity.
5. Clients' needs (problem) statement (100 words)
In this section you are to provide a re-stated "problem statement" based on the project area you have chosen and the research you have undertaken. This needs to take into consideration the client needs and the real outcomes they are looking for through the implementation of your later design concept.
6. References
You are required to provide a list of all references you have used in supporting your arguments. The reference list has to be formatted according to Harvard referencing style.
