For this assignment you will take on the role of a government adviser and select one of the issues below and brief a policy maker on the issue including the background and your recommendations/proposed solutions to the issue. You may take advise a US policy maker, European, African, or otherwise.

The most important facet of this assignment is that you use a wide variety of sources (academic articles, primary sources including laws, both domestic and international, and statutes and facts and statistics to make your case).

I have included a link to some very specific guidelines on how to write a briefing paper/note.

In order to get the maximum number of points your paper should have all of the elements and you should be able to answer YES to all of the questions listed at the bottom. Please note these requirements are also stylistic in nature. A briefing note should be well-written, memorable, and attractive. You have to make the case why the policymaker should listen to you.

Your briefing paper should be about 4-6 pages in length (it depends on how many images, charts you will have), but importantly it should meet the criteria laid out above, so it that means less in terms of page length, that is fine. Wordy is not necessarily better.
