Assignment Task in Brief
Identify construction company in Oman and produce a written report analyzing any one (1) case study on the following type of building elements.
Shallow Foundation Works
Piling Works - Displacement Piles
Piling Works - Replacement Piles
The frame (Column & Beam)
Wall
Floor
Roof
Internal Fixtures & Fittings
The case study organization must be an existing real-life project (completed or ongoing, preferably local not foreign) taking into account the followings:
Brief project background
Parties involved in the project
Introduction to the elements (brief description, types available, types used in the case study, etc.)
Major components of the elements
General Method Statement or construction process
Materials and plant or machinery used
Problems during construction and steps taken to resolve them

INSTRUCTIONS TO STUDENTS

Instructions
Students are divided into a group of 5 to 6 members.
Groups are not allowed to have an identical project or case study.
Case study extracted from literature (books, articles, journals) is not allowed. Each group should conduct its research from the website and annual reports of the company.
Students are required to prepare their analysis and not to copy or use an existing report of the project.

Submission and Presentation

1. Written Report
The report shall be submitted as a standard report (Times New Roman, 12, 1.5 spacing, justify) not more than 3000 words with appropriate references. Any necessary supporting documents (drawings/plans, Gantt chart, etc.) shall be attached in the Appendix.
2. Case Study Summary Poster/Pamphlet
A poster or pamphlet consists of a mind map or summary of your findings in your written report. You are limited to only one (1) A3 sized poster/pamphlet. Please use your creativity and consider including only the important and highly essential bits of your findings, to accommodate to the limitations. You need to photocopy the poster/pamphlet for each of the class members during the presentation day.
3. Soft Copy Submission
Each group is required to submit the files through a link provided in Moodle. The soft copy submission will include the report (PDF file) and poster/pamphlet. The group shall be attached to this cover page in the written report.
4. Presentation
Each group is required to make a brief but formal presentation in English for the assignment dates by the Tutor. It can be in the form of a poster presentation.
5. Report Layout
Use Font Times New Roman (size 12), type in 1.5 spacing, and justified text.
The report should be presented in logical order as given on page 7.
