Both sides are utilizing intelligence to protect (the purpose of gathering criminal/terrorism intelligence), however; the intelligence and law enforcement communities typically operated in largely different spheres, separated by mission, culture, scope of activity and law. However, it is recognized that often they support and collaborate with one another. Each entity in it's own has their strengths and weaknesses, which is why the support and collaboration is critical when it comes to the gathering of intelligence from either side.
