In extreme cases of untreated tetanus infections, patients will break bones and tear muscles in the body. The tetanus toxin is considered a neurontoxin and will block the release of glycine. Why would that lead to bones breaking and muscles tearing? Please explain from an anatomy and physiology point of view. Also, are there other substances that can mimic the tetanus effect?
