Arbitration may be binding, meaning the decision must be followed, or non-binding meaning it serves as a recommendation for the university. Timing- According to (Blankley, 2017) the court process often takes years to resolve civil disputes, but in Emily's case finding an immediate resolution is in her best interest. The deadlines that Emily needs to meet are necessary for her to choose a different type of dispute resolution compared to a dispute that does not have pressing interests. Relationship- Preserving her relationship (if there is one) with her professor or any other academic professional may be of some importance to Emily. Resolving this issue quickly, quietly and professionally will help to maintain these professional relationships.
