Course Learning Outcomes -

1. Describe how laws and regulations shape the services banks can offer to the public.

2. Recognize how economic policy carried out by the Central Bank affects banking system through which the economy is affected as a whole.

3. Compare Comment on various types of business loans (short-term & long-term).

Project objectives - The objective of this report is to familiarize students with mechanics, nature, challenges and opportunities of banking sectors around the globe and evaluating the financial performance of specific banks in respective markets (UAE).

Students can find relevant information on the internet, annual reports, TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, and personal interviews with knowledgeable experts. Particularly, for evaluating the performance of banks, students need to collect data from the financial statements of the banks. They can find that information from the bank's annual reports and bank's website.

Note that this is a group project and each member of the group is expected to make equal contributions to the project.

In your report you should include at least the following topics:

1. Industry Analysis:

Describe the nature of the banking industry of UAE.

Describe the major competitors in the market (in brief).

Describe the opportunities and threats of the banking industry in UAE.

Describe how laws and regulations in UAE affecting the services banks can offer to the public (Basel Requirements).

Explain the economic policy in the UAE and how the banks comply with this policy.

Compare and explain the products offered by the banks in UAE.

2. Bank Analysis:

Analysis one of the country's biggest bank by comment on the various types of business loans they offer and calculate most of the following ratios for the bank and its main competitor for 2017-2018:

1. Tier 1 capital ratio

2. Total capital ratio

3. Equity ratio

4. Loan loss reserve ratio

5. Nonperforming loan ratio

6. Return on average assets

7. Return on average equity

8. Net loan ratio

3. Conclusions:

Provide a brief summary of your analyses and comment on the future prospects of the bank. Would you recommend an investor to purchase the shares of that bank?

You should support all your analyses with charts and graphs. To get a high grade from this project, you should make sure that your report contains all the information required along with many graphs and charts, and looks neat and professional.

Project Structure: It is recommended that your project report have the following structure in the order provided here.

1. Title page

2. Abstract / Executive Summary - The Abstract consists of the project title and about half a page concise summary containing the scope and results of your study.

3. Acknowledgements - In this part, you award thanks to those who have been of useful assistance during your project.

4. Table of Contents - Table of contents should contain titles and page numbers for the main sections and subsections of your report. The table of contents should also include entries for any appendices in your report.

5. Report Body - This is the central and main part of the project which contains the actual work done during the project. The main requirement is that you need to structure the report so that it is clear and structured in a way that makes sense. Grammar and spellings count.

6. Conclusions - The project's conclusions should list the things which have been learnt as a result of the work you have done.

7. Appendix - Appendices should be used for all additional supplementary materials. For example - survey data, interview summaries, diagrams or graphs. Individual appendices are lettered (e.g. Appendix A, Appendix B, etc.)

8. References - You are responsible for appropriately citing material and methods that you use. Give references for the data collected from a text book, a magazine or a website identifying its sources while using the appropriate form. In the references section, references should be in a numbered list, ordered alphabetically by the last name of the first author.
