Bacteria are essential to the health of our planet. Two abilities of bacteria are critical to life on Earth. Bacteria 'fix' nitrogen, thus making it available to plants and animals and bacteria decompose waste and dead animals and plants. This decomposition process makes these atoms and molecules available to be used again.

We all know that bacteria are capable of causing serious illnesses. Research has now shown that bacteria are helpful in many more ways than had previously been known. How is your life influenced by helpful bacteria?
