Mass media, especially news media, as the carriers of discourses, reflect the relationship between unequal power and language use, discourse and language ideology in the society.
The language of the mass media has always been the most common means of disseminating beliefs and ideas (Fowler, 2013). Fowler believes that the ‘content' of the news is not the facts retelling of the world. Therefore, For EFL learners, recognizing the power of language in ideological indoctrination is highly crucial.
There are a lot of studies have been exposed the pedagogical implications of CDA for EFL. Most of them agree that CDA as a teaching approach can develop learners' language awareness, and also can improve their writing skills, thinking ability and critical reading.
Research questions:
1. Why should we have a critical attitude towards using mass media (news) as ‘authentic materials' in language education?
