Hiking in the deserts of New Mexico you encounter a strangely shaped, entirely smooth metallic rock. Oozing from the rock is a slime mold that you believe to be a new species never before seen (on earth). The mold fluoresces bright pink normally but when transported back to your laboratory and grown in culture media it fluoresces purple.

A The new enzyme catalyzes the cleavage of substrate at a velocity of 20µmol/min when the concentration of substrate is 0.01M to produce the violet color. The Km for the substrate is 1 x 10^(-5) M. Assuming that Michaelis-Menten kinetics are followed what will the reaction velocity be when the concentration of S is (a) 1 x 10^(-5) and (b) 1 x 10^(-6) M?
