This assignment engages the student in understanding how projects fit as implementation vehicles to meet organizational goals defined within the organization's  strategic plan. Organizational structures can have an impact on projects and portfolios, so the concepts of organizational structure are included in the week's assignment.  Students examine portfolio management concepts, strategic management concepts, and the relation between the two. 

Write a 1,050- to 1,400-word summary in which you:

Explain how strategic portfolio management relates to project management.

Discuss how portfolio management concepts support an organization's mission and goals.

Analyze the difference between project-based and non-project-based organizations.
