In this discussion, we will explore and compare the Common Core State Standards and CT Early Learning and Development Standards (CT ELDS). Before you post to the discussion, review the material in the unit Readings and Resources about the Common Core State Standards Initiative and reread the CT Early Learning and Development Standards (CT ELDS) in Unit 4 Readings and Resources. Pay particular attention to the following topics within the Common Core:

• About the Standards.

• Are the standards developmentally appropriate for students?

• What parents should know.

Imagine you are a Kindergarten teacher explaining the Common Core Standards to a group of families by responding to the following three questions. Reference course/unit material in your post. Please make sure to use APA format when you reference materials.

• Why is it called the "Common Core"?

• What do the standards mean to you?

• Would you support the Common Core? State why or why not.
