Data Analysis Paper

Students will have to write a 7-10-page final paper on their own statistical findings of a particular research question. This final paper will encompass material covered in the textbook readings, lectures, and homework assignments. Students are required to work independently and use different datasets. Student needs to show understanding of various variables, displays data and explains a relationship between two variables.

Topic: Are minority ethnic groups compared to non-minority ethnic group in United Kingdom (UK) more likely to feel that victims of crime are treated differently based on their socioeconomic status?

Tasks:

1. Try to fix all mistakes from previous homeworks and combine the tasks from all homeworks into one word document (I might not be able to return homework #3 on time, so this is fine.)

2. Conduct a chi-square test on two categorical variables in your data. Write all the steps and logistics behind conducting a chi-square test.

This includes showing understanding of: Null and alternative hypothesis alpha level, p-value critical value: How and where do you find it? Chi-square statistic degrees of freedom I want you to be as detailed as possible about the Chi-square test.

State your final decision: Do you reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis? Also, if you have more than just one categorical variable that can be used as the independent variable: Try to conduct a chi-square test on this other variable with your categorical dependent variable.

Write a research paper on your chosen dataset and research question. Your paper should be structured the following way:

Introduction: introduce your question: Why is it important to research this in your chosen country? Literature Review: review prior research on this matter. (You are not required to go into great depth here. At least 2 pages long)

Methodology: here you describe what you did on R Studio, e.g. which codes you used and how they worked. (logistics behind the codes) Result section: Include tables, graphs and describe your findings (use your homework as guideline)

Discussion: Combine results with previous research. How does your finding surprise/ not surprise you? Does it differ/ not differ from other research?

References: end-text referencing; use only one style (at least 10!)

Appendix: all R-Studio commands Guidelines: approximately 2, 000 words (points will be deducted if it is below 1.500 words): this number is excluding tables and graphs!

Create a table yourself! à best way is to screenshot tables/ graphs due to word count! Your paper should entail at least 3 different tables and 3 different graphs Entail a chi-squared test or t-test Detailed description of each variable in your final dataset Explain what you did with missing values: e.g. by how much did the sample size drop?

View this paper as the main presentation of your knowledge gained in this class. Consider the format of your final paper; e.g. Do not have graphs and tables in a separate document.

If you have a continuous dependent variable and a binary independent variable: Try to conduct a t-test. If it does not work on your computer for some reason, try to attach the error message to your homework.
