Lesson 2 Writing Reflection - Applying Developmental Theories
It has been said that until the 15th century children were seen as little adults; the only difference between children and adults was size. We now reject this medieval view, and attitudes towards children have evolved over time along with economic change and social advancement. Today's formal theories about human development provide a framework through which we can draw conclusions and make predictions about human behavior.
For this exercise:
1. Think of a specific event or experience you remember from your childhood and briefly describe the event or experience.
2. Analyze the event or experience using one of the following developmental theories described in the assigned materials. Use appropriate vocabulary for the theory and add supporting evidence from your text. Describe how the selected theory provides you with a new understanding of this experience.
- psychodynamic or psychosocial
- behavioral
- cognitive
3. Now, analyze the same event or experience again, this time using one of the following developmental theories described in the assigned materials. Use appropriate vocabulary for the theory and add supporting evidence from your text. Describe how the selected theory provides you with a new understanding of this experience.
- humanistic
- contextual
- evolutionary
Your initial description of the event/experience and each explanation should be in a paragraph or two between 75-100 words. Your paper should be a Word document (.doc or .docx), at least 250* words, double-spaced, 1-inch margins, with 12-point Times New Roman font. Name your file Theory_iii.docx (where iii are your initials). Unless you have explicit permission otherwise, you must complete this assignment individually; working with someone else, providing information to someone else, or asking for assistance from anyone but the course instructor is prohibited. Be sure you REFER to concepts included in the Lesson 2 assigned materials to support your ideas and opinions, by paraphrasing the relevant information in your own words and provide in-text citations in APA style for the source(s); NO QUOTES are allowed
