Case: As team lead, Raymond was assigned to manage the warehouse and distribution section. During the first meeting with his logistics team, he was informed of the challenges that some of the store technicians faced in correctly identifying similar-looking pallets of products. The problem is further confounded by how goods are received, as they are usually piled together after off-loading from the truck onto the warehouse floor before inventory and storage. As he observed his staff in action, he realised the need to demarcate the warehouse floor into segments. This allowed the workers to quickly place similar items within the same segment during off-loading. Similar-looking pallets of products were also differentiated by placing them apart in different segments. This simple solution did not incur significant additional costs, and complemented the existing workflow. Most importantly, the number of storage and distribution errors dropped. Raymond was extremely satisfied that his new role allowed him to fix operational problems, and improve the working environment of his colleagues.
