Assignment: Annotated bibliography
Learning Outcome 1: Apply research appraisal models to assess the rigour and verify the accuracy of published information
Learning Outcome 2: Evaluate the research literature relating to evidence-based practice in disaster, emergency or health practice
Learning Outcome 3: Communicate with clarity and purpose, using appropriate research evidence and language to support judgements and justify opinions
Instruction
This assessment task builds off the work you undertook in assessment one. You are required to critique five studies that discuss the process/intervention/guideline you used for assessment one (*Note-you may change to a different process/ intervention/guideline from assessment one if you would prefer). Your primary focus on the critique of each study should include:
- A short introduction of the topic
- The body encompassing the critique of your five articles.
- Things to focus on should include:
o The scope of the research and how well it aligns with your research topic
o The methodological design utilised and the suitability of it to answer the proposed research question
o The strengths and limitations of the study design
o The validity of the conclusions drawn. How far can the results be generalised?
- A short conclusion describing the current ‘state-of-play' with respect to what the evidence is saying about your process/intervention/guideline (as evidenced by your five cited papers). Where possible try to utilise contemporary (recent) literature.
Be sure to utilise the "What is an annotated bibliography" document for further tips on the type of expected content and structure of an annotated bibliography. Please also use the marking rubric below for a guide of how your work will be graded.
Once completed, upload your draft annotated bibliography for peer-review by selecting Start Assignment at the top right of this assignment page.
Exemplars from previously enrolled students are provided here and here if wanting further guidance surrounding expectations for this assignment.
Assignment: Literature review (how has research influenced practice?)
Learning Outcomes:
- Evaluate published research literature relating to evidence-based practice guidelines to inform practice and guide clinical decision-making
- Apply the hierarchies of evidence model to assess the rigour of research methodology verifying the accuracy of published information
- Communicate with clarity and purpose, using appropriate research evidence and language to support judgements and justify opinions
- Analyse contemporary approaches to clinical practice and collaborate with colleagues on evidence-based practices and approaches.
Instructions
This assessment tasks builds off the work you undertook from assessment one and two. You are required to provide an exhaustive literature review (you may incorporate articles you did and did not include in your annotated bibliography) discussing the validity and suitability of a process/intervention/guideline that is currently utilised or is considered being implemented in practice in your field (*Note-you may change to a different process/intervention/guideline from assessment one and/or two if you would prefer).
As part of this Literature Review you are expected to critically evaluate the methodology of the current literature to assist you in determining the current ‘state of play' of your chosen process/intervention/guideline.
From your reading of the literature surrounding your research question/topic, what would your recommendation be? Does the evidence support the ongoing implementation (or the new implementation) of your process/intervention/ guideline? The evidence may clearly and consistently suggest so. Alternatively, while older evidence may suggest so, new evidence may be coming out suggesting there is new technology or techniques that could work to replace or augment the present process/intervention/guideline. Alternatively again, the evidence could be mixed, necessitating further research before a solid conclusion could be drawn, which may be a bit worrying if the process/intervention/guideline is already widely incorporated or accepted.
Format: Literature review of 2,000 words
