Analyzing Pride and Prejudice in historical context. Chose marriage as the institution and happiness/ individuality as the issue to discuss. I am having the hardest time coming up with a working thesis. If you have any pointers, I would love them...so far I have:
In the late sixteenth century, England’s notions of happiness and individuality changed in what is known as the Individualism movement. No longer able to bear the constraints of religion and society, many bold and intellectual minds argued that “the individual preceded society” (B 231). Although their ideas were not immediately welcomed, as many were “interrogated, tortured, and often killed,” a rise in print made them a force to be reckoned with (B 229).
Is it ok to begin my thesis with this kind of intro? I was gonna hopefully introduce Jane Austen in the next sentence.
