Midterm Project:

Short Presentation & Paper of a Copyright or Ownership Media Case

For the midterm project you will be analyzing a copyright or media ownership case. Media artifacts that may be analyzed for this project include music, art, literature, entertainment, and more.

Overview

By exploring specific copyright and/or ownership cases we can learn about the complexities of copyright policies and ownership. Students can work individually or in pairs to analyze a specific copyright or ownership case.

They will 1) create a short 3-minute presentation and turn in a 5-page paper using APA Style.

General Timeline

Students may start on their Midterm Project

• Decide whether you would like to work with a partner or individually

• Start researching your copyright or ownership case

 (online/Moodle): Post a Paragraph Summary of Your Topic

(in-class): Short Presentation

• Present a very short 3-minute presentation to the class about your copyright or ownership case
• Students may use 2-3 slides, if they wish, in their presentation
• Submit a draft of your paper in-class (2 - 3 page paper)

• Submit paper online (5 pages)

Detailed Lesson Plan

The Presentation:

1. Give a very short 3-minute presentation of your copyright/ownership case on Thursday, July 20th in class
2. Your presentation should include a short summary of the case, the parties involved, and the outcome
3. You may use 2-3 slides, though it is not required

The Paper:

• Your paper should include a detailed summary of the issue and copyright/ownership case
• The parties involved and their intentions
• Background info - other cases similar to this, background info on the material and people
• Why is this case important
• Your opinion and evidence to support your opinion

Your papers should be two pages., double-spaced, 12 pt. font. Three or more citations required encouraged.
