QUES :-

A surge tank system is to be installed as part of a pilot plant facility. The system consists of two tanks arranged in non-interacting configuration as discussed in class. Each tank is 5 ft high and 3 ft in diameter. The design flow rate is qi = 100 gal/min. An alternative design could be to replace the two tanks by a single tank having the same combined volume but a diameter of 4 ft.

Answer the following:

a. Which system amongst the two can handle larger step disturbances in qi. Explain!

b. Which systems provides the best damping of step disturbancesin qi. Explain!

NOTE : You can assume that the valves have linear resistances.
