Assessment Description

In this assessment, you will take on the role of an Enterprise Systems consultant tasked with solving a complex business challenge through the application of an enterprise resource planning solution.

Drawing on the principles of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and requirement gathering techniques, you will critically assess the case study and communicate your proposed solution through two components: an individual video pitch and a written justification report. This assessment is designed to test your ability to analyse enterprise systems, structure IS solutions using development methodologies and clearly document and communicate your recommended solution. This assessment aims to achieve the following subject learning outcomes:

LO4: Document and critically communicate the use of information systems in business using software development lifecycles and requirement gathering techniques.

Assessment Instructions
This assessment comprises two individual components:

Part 1: An individual ES consultant video pitch (8 minutes) based on a selected case study.
Part 2: An individual 800-word report that documents the justification for your recommended enterprise system solution.

Part 1 - Video Pitch
You must record a professional video presentation simulating the role of an Enterprise Systems consultant pitching a future-ready enterprise system solution to a business audience.

Your pitch should clearly define the business problem, apply the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) to structure your solution, and explain how you gathered and used stakeholder requirements.

Part 2 - Justification Report

Write a structured business report that focuses solely on providing a well-reasoned justification for the enterprise system solution you proposed in your video pitch.

Your report must reflect high standards of business professionalism and communication. Visual clarity, concise expression, and critical analysis are essential.

Use of Generative AI (e.g. ChatGPT)

You may use GenAI tools to assist in brainstorming, refining ideas, or providing feedback, but must not be used to generate your full content or paraphrase large sections.

If you use GenAI, you must include an appendix in your report and a final slide in your pitch detailing how it was used (e.g., prompts entered and how you interpreted the output). This is required for academic transparency.

Use clear visuals and concise explanations. Your pitch must include the following elements, presented in a professional and strategic manner.

Business Problem Analysis (1 Slide)

Identify key business challenges related to information systems, operations, or strategy, and support your analysis with an example from industry.

Requirement Gathering Techniques (2 Slides)

Describe the techniques you would use to gather business and user requirements and how they informed your recommendation.
Use an example to show how effective requirement gathering led to a successful enterprise system design or implementation.

Strategic Alignment (1 Slide)

Explain how your proposed solution aligns with the organisation's strategic goals, such as innovation, compliance, customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, or sustainability. Support your explanation with relevant examples

Conclusion (1 Slide)

Summarise the benefits of your recommendation and make a final persuasive statement.

Part 2: Justification Report
You will write an 800-word business report that provides a clear and well-reasoned justification for the enterprise system solution you recommended in your video pitch (Part 1). This report acts as a strategic and analytical follow-up to your presentation. Your task is to explain why your proposed solution is the most suitable for the organisation in the selected case study.
