Assessment description
This assessment prepares learners to explain about management practice based on in-depth and insightful implementation of theory. Learners practice the skill of critical appraisal taking into consideration the complexity of management and learn how to resolve issues via discussions raised that places a new perspective on the complexity of management.
Question 1. Write a report on what we can learn about planning from Centro, and in particular how management theory would support the approach(es) you recommend.
Question 2. Write a report on the influences of the external environment on Centro and how management theory would suggest what we learn from these influences can be used in other organisations.
Question 3. Write a report on what decision-making processes you would recommend be adopted more broadly in other organisations from those in Centro. Similarly what do you recommend not be adopted? In particular consider the rationality of the decision-making process.
Question 4. Finding and keeping quality people, and removing others, is central to the ability of Centro to reduce risk and manage in difficult situations. Write a report recommending which human resource management practices would be transferable to another
organisation, especially in recruitment and retention? Which practices would you not recommend?
Question 5. Analyse the leadership practices in Centro using leadership theory and the bases of power. Use this analysis to recommend practices that would work in other organisations. Similarly recommend practices that would not work elsewhere. Justify your recommendations by reference to leadership theory.
