Advocacy, as you have learned, is a role supported by many healthcare professions as seen in professional codes such as the Code of Ethics for Nurses. The concept of serving is also supported through theories such as the Servant Leadership theory and in the Christian Worldview.

1. Describe your community. Consider: rural vs urban, healthcare access, mean income, mean age, available social services, and so forth.

2. Name two to three public health issues facing your community. Explain the importance of this issue related to the social determinants of care.

3. Explore the differences between the concepts of advocate, community activist, and community (or public) servant.

4. Which term resonates with you and your engagement within the community? Or which role would you prefer to be associated with? Explain.

5. Does your worldview (Christian, Secular, or other religious worldview) impact your perception between the concepts?
