Hypertension
To educate a patient that has hypertension, you should advise the patient that lifestyle changes need to occur. Listing off some of those examples would be:
1. Limit your sodium intake to 1,500 if you have high blood pressure.
2. Plan out a healthier meal plan (fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy products) and limit saturated fats and overall fats.
3. Exercise daily each day for 30 minutes minimum.
4. If smoking give encouragement to quit smoking, and if patient shows interest, look up resources for them to help quit.
5. Alcohol consumption should be reduced.
6. Taking medications for hypertension should be followed accordingly, per doctor's order.
7. Follow-up appointments are necessary to make sure results are improving or if medications or other measures need to be taken.
