Question: In order to test whether energy drinks are better at reducing driver sleepiness than other substances, a team of researchers conducted the following experiment. First, they selected 20 undergraduate students from the university at which the researchers work. The students were selected from the researchers' classes. Each student was tested via a car simulator. First, the students were asked to drive for 15 minutes. Lane drifting and sleepiness were monitored. Next, they were each given a Red Bull (8oz). After the drink, the students were asked to drive for 2 hours continuously. Lane drifting and sleepiness were monitored again. Overall, the researchers found that consuming the energy drink reduced overall sleepiness and lane drift among the 20 students. They concluded that when sleepy, energy drinks reduce driver sleepiness better than other standard methods.
